The rapper often wrote in his songs about the difficult relationship he and his father had since Drake’s parents got divorced when he was aged 5. But according to the rapper’s dad, Dennis Graham, he always heavily present in Drake’s life, as he told in an interview for the Los Angeles Radio Station Power 106 last week:

“I talk to him, if not every day, every other day. And we really got into a deep conversation about that. I said, ‘Drake, why are you saying all this different stuff about me, man? This is not cool.’”

And added imitating Drake: “Dad, it sells records.” Drake quickly responded to the interview with a post on his Instagram story on Tuesday (October 8th) by expressing his disappointment in his father saying:

“Woke up today so hurt man. My father will say anything to anyone that’s willing to listen to him. It’s sad when family gets like this but what can we really do? That’s the people we are stuck with…Every bar I ever spit was the truth and the truth is hard for some people to accept.”

Drake ended the post with a shrug emoji. There are a few lyrics where he talks about their estrangement, like in the track “0 to 100”: Since my dad used to tell me / He was comin’ to the house to get me / He ain’t show up / Valuable lesson, man, I had to grow up / That’s why I never ask for help / I’ll do it for you n****s and do it for myself.”

On another record called “From Time” Drake contemplates about reconnecting with his father: I’ve been dealing with my dad, speaking of lack of patience / Just me and my old man getting back to basics / We’ve been talking ‘bout the future and time that we wasted / When he put that bottle down, girl that n****a’s amazing.”

The rapper recently published the song “Behind Barz”, which is the last song of the soundtrack of Top Boy’s third season on Netflix, which Drake executive produced. “Care Package”, a compilation of old tracks and interludes, was release earlier this year after two new songs came out to celebrate the Toronto Raptor’s historic NBA victory. Besides that, Drake is said to release a new album before 2020, which will be the next one after his album “Scorpion” was released in 2018.
