Key facts and information about the MOBO Organisation
  • The annual MOBO Awards show has become one of the most anticipated events on the music calendar and showcases the best in British and international urban talent. The MOBO brand has gained recognition around the world.
  • Having played at every iconic venue in London since 1996 including the Royal Albert Hall (6 times even), Wembley Arena and the O2 where the 2007 show was their first multi-artist event, MOBO made the bold move from its London birthplace to Glasgow in 2009.
  • Since 2014, the MOBO Awards will have a new broadcast home, as ITV and the MOBOs confirm a three-year partnership is in place for broadcast coverage of the ceremony on the UK's biggest digital channel, ITV2, and a highlights show on ITV’s main channel.
    Before that the MOBO Awards were aired live on BBC Three, repeated on BBC One.
  • MOBO is proud to have been a catalyst in the careers of numerous UK artists, including Craig David, Ms Dynamite, Estelle, Kano, Amy Winehouse, N-Dubz, Chipmunk, Emeli Sandé and Rita Ora – who all have gone on to achieve great success after having been given a first platform by MOBO or having won the Best Newcomer Award.
  • MOBO provides support to emerging and established MOBO Music talent through online features, acoustic sessions, talent competitions (MOBO UnSung), the annual MOBO Tour and the MOBO Awards Show
  • MOBO have worked closely with various partners over the years all in support of urban music talent, both in the UK and internationally. Key supporters have included Mastercard, HSBC, Western Union, Lebara Mobile and Malibu. Current partners are HTC, easyJet and PRSforMusic.

  • The first annual MOBO Awards ceremony in 1996 was organised in just 6 weeks and held at the New Connaught Rooms in London to great acclaim. It was also the first televised multicultural event to be broadcast nationwide.
  • Being nominated for a MOBO is a huge boost to an artist’s career: Before he was well known in Europe, Kanye West’s nominations led to his record sales increasing by 62% in the year he was nominated.
