YolanDa Brown: MOBO TV Interview
Winning the Best Jazz Act at the MOBO Awards two years in a row in 2008 and 2009, YolanDa Brown is widely recognized as one of UK Jazz's most talented and exciting artists around; and all of this comes without the release of her debut album 'April Showers, May Flowers' yet. The fact is YolanDa has been a busy girl away from music scene as well, picking up an honorary Doctorate of Arts by the University of East London this time last year. The saxophone player has only just started to use her dazzling voice to support her amazing brass instruments.
Now, after a year of practicing and getting her vocal chords right, YolanDa is now ready to live up to the hype and the debut album is on its way in the new year. She performed at Camden Town's Jazz Café on the 2nd of December to showcase some of these new tracks with a surprise element and MOBO TV was there.
MOBO TV caught YolanDa Brown backstage after the show to talk about the up and coming album 'April Showers, May Flowers' launch on the 13th of February and two huge shows at the HMV Hammersmith Apollo on the 14th and 17th, accompanied by The Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra. She also tells us about her performance at the Prince’s Trust Rock Gala which will be on TV on Christmas Day and how happy she is to know that the public voted for her two years in a row at the MOBO Awards; something she is very thankful for.
