TV’s Ricky Whittle is our brand new BeMOBO ambassador! The former Hollyoaks and Strictly Come Dancing star is backing the BeMOBO initiative, which gives exposure and recognition to individuals and organisations who do good in the community.
He said: “I love the MOBO Awards, and I’m made up they’re in my back yard this year.”
Ricky, who presented the Best African Act award in 2007, added: “I’ve been up to the ceremony in Glasgow last year and to the ones in London, so to have it here, in our city of culture, is fantastic”“The biggest stars will be here. Internationally, the MOBO Awards are a massive thing. I’ve sat at tables with Hollywood legends. One time I turned around and Quentin Tarantino was sitting right behind me.”
Although Ricky is no longer on the Hollyoaks cast, he has chosen to stay living in Merseyside. “It’s home now. People have made me feel so welcome. I just know that people coming here for the MOBO Awards are going to be blown away. When you look at the music scene we have here, it’s the natural place for these awards to be.”
The BeMOBO Award has a special place in Ricky’s affections and we’re very excited to have him as a supporter of this very special and prestigious award. “This region is packed with great community groups and individuals who inspire everyone around them,” he explained. “I’ve been privileged to meet some of the charities and voluntary groups doing great work in this area, and the BeMOBO award is designed to celebrate them and their achievements.
“Best of all, anyone can nominate, so I’d urge anyone to give a great community group or individual a well deserved pat on the back.”
Nominations for the BeMOBO Award are being accepted at until 23:59 on Sunday, August 14. To enter a submission click here!
