Premiere: download new music by Olugbenga (Metronomy)
We're proud to present brand new and exclusive free music by Olugbenga - taken from his forthcoming debut project Epic & Blues.
Raised by a Nigerian father and a Kenyan mother in Lagos, Nigeria, Olugbenga is now based here in the UK and best known as the bass player of Metronomy. Aside from that, he's been making his name as a producer and remixer and DJ.
We welcome you to this mesmerising insight into what to expect from Olugbenga - the producer. Epic & Blues is his unmissable debut release, a collection of Olugbenga remixes that have been reworked into original material. The remix parts have been stripped out and replaced with new original additions by Olugbenga. It's now our turn to premiere two new tracks from Epic & Blues, both of which are exclusive to MOBO.com.
The title of 'Deeper Hidden Meaning' is taken from something Nile Rodgers says in his autobiography - "about the way him and Bernard Edwards used to approach producing other artists when they were in Chic," says Olugbenga. "An idea might seem simple, but as long as there was a DHM to the music or the lyrics, they knew they were on the right track". "Rap music always looms very large as an influence on my production, so I thought I'd take that all the way on this one and chop up a sample." You can download an mp3 via SoundCloud, or stream 'Deeper Hidden Meaning' here:
'Reset' is a remix of a track by Three Trapped Tigers, one of Olugbenga's favourite bands both live and on record. He describes it as a great calling card for people who want to know what his music sounds like.
