New Music: Elle Varner, Missy Elliott, Tamia and DJ Quik
Elle Varner - Perfectly Imperfect
Newcomer Elle Varner is hitting an unmatchably consistent level, depth-wise. Varner's voice arrives with such subtlety; she manages to gruff up to mimic the style of a classic soul singer, but only when it calls for it. And this track tackles same-sex, mixed-race relationships.
Missy Elliott ft. Timbaland - Triple Threat
Finally, new music from Missy! It may be four years since her seventh album was due, but patience has mostly paid off - this track could do with being a little less self-aware but it's still great to have her back.
Tamia - Lose My Mind
Tamia's old school RnB is infectious, and the super-sweet harmonies in the chorus are endless.
