MOBO UnSung Winner Is... Esco Williams

For those who didn’t know, the MOBO UnSung competition began earlier this year, ahead of our MOBO Tour in February and March. We explored the nation to find the finest artists from our chosen regions – and we were flooded with responses.

The finalists went on to open their local leg of the tour, with a huge break and a great audience awaiting them. We had Birmingham's Jacob Banks, Manchester’s Frequently Asked Questions, Kobi Onyame in Glasgow, Newcastle’s Chris 4sit, Empror in Bristol, London’s Xploder, Rafroman in Norwich and of course, our eventual MOBO UnSung winner Esco Williams – who hails from Liverpool.

Esco is a member of choir of the year, Sense of Sound, a youth facilitator and a singer/songwriter. He has opened for RZA, Dead Prez and Sugababes, and has been playlisted on 1Xtra, FLAVA TV and AKA - and he was placed in the Top 20 of MTV's Brand New for 2012.

Since creeping into music at just 17, self-described geek has been creating a lot of noise. Esco’s pulsating form and captivating presence is reminiscent of Aloe Blacc, Al Green, Musiq Soulchild and Cee-Lo Green, yet his energy and performance is that of a rock star with maximum swagger. A scouser born and bred, he was brought up on an early education of Stevie Wonder and Marvin Gaye.

We predict big things for our MOBO UnSung winner – and you can catch him performing at this year’s MOBO Nominations Party ahead of the 17th annual MOBO Awards. Speaking of which, we’ll be making an announcement about this year’s Awards show soon!

A huge congrats goes out to Esco Williams. Here he is below performing 'New Challenger'. Let us know what you think on Twitter at @MOBOAwards with the #MOBOUnSung hashtag.
