MOBO Movie Review: “Shank”

Last week MOBO went along to a private press screening of “Shank”, the new film from Revolver Entertainment. The film stars a host of British urban talent including Ashley “Bashy” Thomas, Adam Deacon (Kidulthood/Adulthood) and Michael Socha as well as a cameo from up and coming comedian Eddie Kadi. Set in London in 2015, the economy and government have collapsed and the streets have given over to mob rule. The film follows the story of 14 year old Junior and the struggle he and older brother Rager (played by Bashy) face to survive in a world where food has replaced money as currency. Joined by their gang “The Paper Chasers”, who have a strictly no killing rule, Junior and Rager carry out a series of heists in order to get food when one goes tragically wrong.

"Shank" is a gripping look into what life could be like if youth violence and today’s global economical problems continued to spiral out of control. Set to an explosive grime and UK Hip Hop Soundtrack, the gritty and action filled "Shank" combines animation, computer graphics and live animation in a way that hasn’t been done before in a film of its kind.

"Shank" is released in cinemas on March 26th. In the meantime, check out our exclusive MOBO.com interview with the cast members! (Coming Soon!)
