A couple of weeks ago the MOBO team made a trip down to the London IndigO2 to see fast rising YouTube sensation Mike Hough. Hailing from Essex, the 18 year old singer/songwriter has been making a name for himself online with a growing legion of loyal fans. Mike possesses a mature and soulful voice way beyond his years. Part Daniel Merriweather and part Chris Brown mixed with the youthfullness of Fugative, he is now attracting the attention of some influential music Industry people with the likes of DJ Ironik raving about him on his “Life of Ironik” blog. Mike has also been working with Jermaine Riley from British R&B boy band Fundamental on some of the tracks for his debut album.
Mike took to the stage at London's IndigO2 backed by a live band and performed a selection of tracks from his upcoming album as well as some genius covers. One of the crowed favorites was his energetic and eclectic version of Rihanna’s “Rude Boy”, a mix of R&B, pop, reggae, hip-hop and even rock.
Mike was then joined on stage by Dayo Olatunji, the singer featured on Chipmunk's huge hit single “Oopsy Daisy”. Next came a funky rendition of the Stevie Wonder classic “Superstition” in which Mike showed of some flawless vocal riffs. Mike then closed the show with "These Notes" his soon to be first single and the track that all his fans had been waiting for, some of whom had traveled from as far a field as Cardiff and Glasgow. Mike’s debut single “These Notes” is scheduled to be released later this year. Watch this space!
