Yesterday saw the last of the MOBO team fly out to the wonderful streets of Glasgow. Yes it was only an hour flight but when MOBO do something, we like to do it in fashion. As soon as we stepped one foot out of the plane we were welcomed with the cold breeze that hit our faces and the slightly wet weather. As soon as we received our luggage, which definitely varied in size, we were then whisked away in a private car to our hotel.
The rooms were suited and booted with freeview, heating, tea, a wonderful view of the city- what more could we possibly ask for? After dropping off our bags at the swanky hotel, we headed off to the SECC to watch the 2009 MOBO Awards stage come to life.
The scalloped ceiling of the SECC flashed red, purple, silver and gold, changing with the shouted cues of the lighting director on the floor below. Along the floor where cables coil, massive speakers and you could hear the crackling of headsets, amongst the swinging and swooping of massive cranes. After months of blood, sweat, tears of laughter, and tears of stress caused by organising the venue, seeing our hard work come to life certainly made it all worth it.
Feeling tired from the early morning start and the journey we were all craving for something to eat. So we put our glad rags on and went about the town in search of a munch. So in true Glaswegian style, every single place we went to was closed, perhaps this had something to do with the fact that it was a bank holiday in Scotland and it was nearly 12 midnight. In failing to find somewhere to eat we settled for good old ‘I’m loving it’ McDonalds!
Meeting up with the rest of the team at the hotel, we then had drinks and all dispersed to our bed calling rooms. Some finishing off last minute work, some watching late night television, others going straight to bed!
Waking up this morning, the streets of Glasgow was buzzing and had much more energy than it did the night before. We all met up for a buffet breakfast first thing in the morning and took full advantage of what was there. Toast, cereal, eggs, mushrooms, sausages, beans, apple juice, orange juice-the whole works were there. Please believe that we were all stuffed to the rim, barely able to get out of our seats.
After breakfast, we then all split up into our different teams and continued on with our missions to make MOBO a success. Today is going to see a lot more artists flying over and rehearsals taking place. Stay tuned for more adventures from MOBO.COM.
