Master Shortie - 'Bringing It Back' [Official Video]
Last night MOBO.COM were invited to MOBO Nominee Master Shortie’s screening of his new video ‘Bringing it Back’ at the Soho Screening rooms and we were delighted to attend!
All popcorn’d out, we settled down in our seats and listened as Master Shortie briefly described the making of the video. We learnt that it was directed by James Sutton, who has previously worked with Will.I.Am amongst others. However, Shortie was quick to point out that he was first to spot the talents of the up-and-coming director – even before the Black Eyed Peas’ front man.
The video then began. Starting off with a ‘Godfather’ style introduction, it then goes into different shots. All of which have bright, coloured backgrounds and are very unique.
The video was exciting front to back, with kaleidoscopic and Rubik cube style-sections. All this going on while Master Shortie performs his track. There’s even a scene with a BBC Test Card theme and Shortie has the clothes to match!
‘Bringing it Back’ is a clash of pop and R&B, infused in futuristic sounds. With lyrics like ‘Hip Hop’s dead so I’m bringing it back’ and ‘My hair’s not permed, so just relax’ – it’s hard not to love it.
We were also lucky enough to preview a sample selection of Shortie’s exclusive, ‘PIGEONHEADZ’ trainers. The limited edition kicks will be in stores soon!
Overall it can be said that the video for ‘Bringing It Back’ is definitely one to watch out for. Its retro eighties style sets it aside from any other videos out at the moment. And the fact that the song is a sure fired hit too? Great! The single is due for release on 26th October.
