Bobbi Brown's Georgina Pelosi talks Africa Fashion Week

Amid the colours, collections and explosions of creativity, London Africa fashion week was an opportunity for individuals to exhibit far more than meets the cultured eye.

With trending themes such as peplum, leather and traditionally produced Ankara-print ensembles being included in the runway line-up, spectators were granted access in to the creative realms of some of the UK's most talented fashion designers

But in true MOBO style, we tuned the angle of our microscope, panned in deeper, and excitedly exchanged intros with a modest, tightly-curled-fro-wearing professional, who has arguably earned her right to be crowned the 'UK Scholar of all things Bobbi Brown'.

Georgina Pelosi is the brand’s senior makeup artist here in the UK, and although she is noted for working on blank canvases we don’t tend to discuss celebrity clients, so please remove if possible, the Essex born MUA is a fair few brushstrokes away from complacency

Some years later, with a few global opportunities, night school and a start-up career in a salon under her belt, she’s assumed her role as the events leading lady of beauty enhancements. Tactfully, she assists her ‘Bobbettes’ while they worked in line with a rapid changeover backstage.

With regular Stateside training sessions with makeup maestro Bobbi Brown herself, when George is back in her quarters here in the UK, she delights in the responsibility she has of passing on her knowledge to her extended Bobbi family here in the UK.

Any advice for the aspiring MUA I hear you ask?

Well, Georgina acknowledges just how much of an impact blogs and YouTube channels have in raising awareness, imparting knowledge of products and teaching the masses how to apply them. However, her initial career experience in a local salon allowed her to develop an attentive attitude and an eye for detail, while working on a smaller, more intimate level.

‘It’s all about recognising what suits the person you’re working on and taking it from there. Sometimes people say they like the look, but they may be worried about offending you if they say they don’t.’

So is it fair to suggest knowing what works, and developing an attention to detail is almost crucial? We think so!

In true BB style, Georgina opted for promoting a look that stood in line with this year’s overall theme for the Empire, focusing on all things natural and healthy. Models were applied with a natural base, (new Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Even Finish Foundation, out September) and had more emphasis being placed on their lips (new Bobbi Brown Creamy Matte Lipcolor, out October) a look that she cleverly allowed to work hand-in-hand with the vivid colours and prints of the clothing.

Having grown up with her Mother demonstrating classy skills in the art of application, Georgina now recalls these being the examples that lead her to what she does today

‘I used to love watching my Mum putting on her make-up and I loved putting on makeup myself as well. People used to think I was too young to wear it.’

The early bird catches the worm’ springs to mind!

Enthused as she suggests Cheryl Cole, and past Olympian Denise Lewis as her prospective project faves, Georgie suggests that some experience behind the counter isn’t crucial- but can be favourable!

MOBO team makeover? Yes please!
