Lady Chann & Her Worldwide Takeover
From an estate in Chelsea, Harlesden and Stonebridge to a breakthrough with The Suncycle Crew, Lady Chann is one to watch on the UK Reggae-influenced Dancehall scene. Chanelle Williams AKA Lady Chann released her double A-side single in January 2012, showcasing Equilibrium and Informer featuring Glamma Kid. In 2004, the area of NW10 was introduced to The Suncycle Crew, made up of Gappy Ranx, ReddMan, Lante and Booji, and led by Dolamite. Hailing themselves as a dancehall version of the Black Eyed Peas’, the Sundance Crew began to explore Dancehall, with its roots in Jamaican music.
Lady Chann’s passion for music stemmed from her childhood, initially watching her father become successful through Exodus and Coxsone. From there, her mother encouraged her to play the piano, and she then extended her love of music to flute, trombone, French horn and drums. Had this not been a huge persuasion in her life, her voice may not have been found. At the young age of 8 years old, Chanelle became a member of her primary school choir, and found her daily routine split into choir rehearsals and academic lessons. After gaining a distinction in BTEC Performing Arts, Lady Chann stood up to the microphone and in February 2012 performed at Madd Raff Wednesdays in London.
With 1,791 likes on Facebook and 26,211 plays on MySpace, Lady Chann is a growing influence on social networking sites for teenagers all over the UK. Her new mixtape ‘Dun Dem Season’ Volume 2 is available now via Vice, and features one hour of her own tunes. Do not be fooled by her pretty and innocent physique, as this girl is out to be the biggest Dancehall sensation the UK has ever seen, taking the world one mixtape at a time.
