Jay Z thanks rappers who have inspired him in Songwriters Hall of Fame speech

Jay Z became the first rapper to be inducted into the prestigous Song Writers Hall of Fame on Thursday evening (June 15) in a cereomony which took place in New York.

The Brooklyn MC and mogul is making history by joining other 2017 nominees; Babyface, Jimmy Jam, Terry Lewis, Robert Lamm, James Panow, Perter Cetera & Max Martin. 

Despite not being able to make the ceremony due to his wife Beyonce being pregnant and due to give birth to twins at any moment, Jay Z made a rare appearance on Twitter to thank rappers that have inspired him over his career, which spans over two decades.

Rap legends like Nas, The Notorious BIG, Snoop Dogg, Big Daddy Kane, Queen Latifah and Common were amongst those he thanked. He also mentioned Kanye West, Nicki Minaj, Drake, Meek Mill, Kendrick Lemar. Younger artists such as Quavo, Travis Scott, Chance The Rapper were also amogst the names he listed as inspiring.

He rounded up by naming the greatest rapper as President Barack Obama, who inducted Jay Z into the Songwriters Hall of Fame. Check out his tweets below....
