Dizzee rASCAL Boy In Da Corner

Hundreds sign petition to get Dizzee Rascal to perform ‘Boy In Da Corner’ in its entirety in London

Grime fans are, understandably, unhappy about the fact that Dizzee Rascal is set to perform his iconic debut album, Boy In Da Corner, in New York later this year as part of the RBMA New York Festival. Why? Well, this will be the first time Dizzee performs Boy In Da Corner in its entirety and he’s not performing it in London.

In response, a petition has been launched in attempt to persuade Dizzee Rascal to perform Boy In Da Corner in London. A change.org petition – titled Dizzee Rascal please perform Boy In Da Corner LIVE in London – reads: “With the recent announcement by RBMA NYC that Dizzee Rascal will be performing his debut album, Boy In Da Corner, my heart melted in nostalgia. I wondered to myself 'WHY NOT LONDON?'

“The legendary album cemented the sound of grime music over 13 years ago. The full set will be performed at the Red Bull Music Academy New York Festival on May 6th 2016.

“Grime has seen a heavy re-emergence into the UK’s mainstream and artists like Kano have sold out shows by re-touring their debut material.

THE SOLUTION:

DIZZEE RASCAL please give the UK a Boy In Da Corner Tour.

Kind Regards,

Every Grime fan in the UK.

At the time of writing more than 500 people have signed the petition.

Boy In Da Corner is arguably the most revered Grime album in the genre’s history. The album was a relative commercial fizzer, debuting at #23 on the Official UK Albums Chart and its first three singles failing to get much play on mainstream radio. But it sent critics and Grime fans lovers into an absolute frenzy. The Guardian, Pitchfork and Los Angeles Times gave Boy In Da Corner a 5-star review – an extremely prestigious achievement for a debut release. Boy In Da Corner also went on to win the Mercury Prize.

Time will only tell if Dizzee Rascal will announce a London show. In addition to Dizzee Rascal, RBMA New York will also feature hip-hop producers Metro Boomin, Zaytoven and Sonny Digital and two live shows by ANOHNI featuring Oneohtrix Point Never. RBMA New York Festival takes place between April 29 and May 22. To find out more information, please click here.
