British R&B Star Jay Sean Conquers America
West London raised Jay Sean has become the most successful male UK urban artist in US chart history. The R&B star has just notched up six weeks on the Billboard Top 10 with his single "Down", featuring non other than Lil Wayne. The single has shifted over a million copies, locking down the number two position for the past three weeks.
Jay Sean now has his eyes set on knocking the Black Eyed Peas from the number one spot, which they have occupied for the past six months.
He stated "I know their sales are decreasing and their airplay is falling. It's probably going to be on its way down. Hopefully we can clinch that number one spot."
"I want to do my best to represent the UK in America and let people really understand that it doesn't matter if we're from a little place called Hounslow.
"As long as you work hard and strive to do you best and make good music, and of course with a bit of luck, it is possible," he said.
The former medical student is now signed to ‘Cash Money’ in America, the same label as Wayne, after having split from his former label Virgin when, he says, they tried to make him sound like James Blunt.
Jay Sean now looks to live up the hype of being "the UK's answer to Ne-Yo, and has stated ‘If you have some good music, you can make it anywhere", he says of this stunning achievement.’
Jay Sean’s single "Down" is released in the UK in October and we are sure it will have the same success over here in the UK, as it has had Stateside.
