Beth Sherburn | MOBO Interview

After collaborating with the Young Money general, Lil Wayne, on her debut single Joker Capital Xtra's very own Jade Avia had a chat with the talented Beth Sherburn for MOBO! Finding out her inspirations, the track she wished she had been a part of, where she sees herself in 5 years and much more.

Having Lil Wayne on the first single release is awesome - how did this come about?

I was working on Joker in the studio with my production team, and they knew Lil Wayne's management they sent the track over and he loved it! It's amazing that's he's featuring on the track!

The response I've had with Joker has been overwhelming! I've recently performed the song at a few events now ( London, Bham Pride, Thorpe Park) and I've definitely received amazing energy from the audience when Singing Joker!

What music did you listen to growing up?

I loved listening to Tina Turner, I remember dancing to Proud Mary all the time in my room when I was younger! Destiny's Child I thought were amazing! I loved their voices/harmonies! Alicia Keys made me want to play the piano and write songs..and the King of Pop of course Michael Jackson!

What genre of music influences your style?

I love all genres of music but urban/pop would be my main music influence...this is definitely the style of music I am writing at the moment...

If you could team up with anyone in the industry to produce you who would it be?

I would love to work with Timbaland...he's a genius he has written and produced so many classic songs..Justin Timberlake's 'Cry Me A River' is still one of my favourites! And I love Beyoncé's single 'Grown Woman' which he co-produced also!

Best collab you wish you had been a part of?

Drunk In Love - I love this song! I was lucky enough to see Beyonce and Jay Z perform together at the 02 and for me this was the highlight of the Mrs Carter Show.

How would you describe your sound?

My music has a urban/pop edgy sound with an Attitude flare...I can't wait for you to hear more material!

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

I hope I will have a successful music career, both as a performer and songwriter! I would love to work with high profile Artists/producers and have the opportunity for my own music to be heard worldwide.

If you weren't a singer what would you have done?

It never crossed my mind because I always wanted to do music in some way.

Which artists are you listening to right now?

Loving Beyonce's and Michael Jackson's new albums..I've recently uploaded an acoustic cover of 'Love Never Felt so Good' on YouTube with Reload sessions!

Which song do you wish you had written?

Imagine -John Lennon -Its one of my favourite songs..it's such a classic and the song has been performed by many amazing artists.
