Aaliyah - We Miss You
Tuesday 25th of August 2009 marks the 8th year anniversary of the unfortunate passing of Miss Aaliyah Dana Haughton. Singer, dancer, actress, model and role-model: Aaliyah’s life was cut short at the tender age of 22 in an unfortunate plane crash however her music and her legacy is still very much a significant part of our lives today.
Always humble and down to earth, what made the world fall in love with Aaliyah was that she never let the fame get to her. Despite 'living the dream' she remained a genuine and caring person. While most girls at the age of 12 are chatting in school giggling about boys, Aaliyah had done what most people fight their whole lives to achieve. She landed a record deal with Jive Records.
Her soft, soulful voice took the world by storm and drew us all in. Whether it was a fast up tempo track like ‘Try Again’ or a slow heart felt track like ‘I Care 4 U' Aaliyah’s voice somehow connected perfectly.
Selling over 24 million records worldwide Aaliyah proves she really is the ‘Queen of Urban Pop’. In the words of Aaliyah herself: ‘You have to love what you do to want to do it everyday’
It can definitely be said that Aaliyah paved the way for the Ciara’s and the Keri Hilson’s of this world.
