1996 saw the first ever Mobo (Music of Black Origin) Awards held in the Connaught Rooms. Recoginsing the talent of The Fugees, TLC, Black Twang and the Chemical Brothers to name a few, this event proved a major hit. Hosted by Sonya Saul, the Mobo's had exclusive performance from artists both sides of the Atlantic ocean, which included Az Yet, Lionel Richie, and Chaka Demus and Pliers. Nominees on the night included Goldie, Coolio, TLC, The Fugees and Trevor Nelson. With an array of talent from the presenters as well which included John Fashanu, Samantha Janus, Darcus Howe and Felix Dextor. This was definitely an event not to be missed.
